MY STORY

Since I was a child, I have always believed I viewed the world from a perspective that not many other people could understand.

As long as I could read, write, and draw, I felt that I could express my feelings and values to others. At gatherings and parties, you could find the younger children running around or muddied up while playing hide and seek. But you could always find me sitting on a chair with a book or in the back of my mother's X-Terra with a whole layout of crayons and sketch paper. I had an imagination that would run wild and preferred to get all my ideas down on paper. Throughout my childhood and teenage years, I would find every outlet of expression - singing, dancing, sports, all while still drawing for fun. In my Junior year of high school, I decided to take art and business classes in hopes of having my own business one day.

A month after I graduated from high school, I began to work at Bank of Guam for the next seven years. Though it wasn't an occupation I could see myself doing for the rest of my life, I learned so many valuable life skills while I was there. Throughout my career, I’ve had the great fortune to work on some truly inspiring projects, while meeting many influential and creative individuals along the way. I believe in working together to create a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.

I've had nay-sayers tell me, "you won't make money off art", "you should stay at a good-paying job", and "well, even if you can create something great, there's always someone who can do it in a shorter period of time". I pressed on and did whatever I could in that timeframe. Not just to 'make money', but to provide a service to people for genuine connection and to help bring their visions and ideas to life.

After five years of creating canvas illustrations and paintings, hand-lettering, and helping people with their passion projects, I can say that there is one motivator that has stayed constant for me over time - Connection. I value the connections I've made with people, especially while discovering their passions. This is the reason for the rebranding of Heart Sparks Studio.

Heart Sparks Studio

Heart Sparks Studio is solely run by myself as my previous handle artbyashley.janae has been - but there is a great significance in this name change. As a designer, I feel it is important for me to provide creative solutions for my customer and clients. The biggest goal is connection.

VISION

To help others hold onto what brings them joy, what kindles love for them, and what sets their hearts on fire.

What sparks your heart?

After years of completing commissions and taking orders here and there, I have been able to connect with so many people .

Creating artwork and designs is exciting for me, but the best part about it all is being able to see the reactions when my illustrations are gifted to your loved ones. I crave giving that type of joy in my pieces and I hope to continue sparking that connection with you!
